Finally, it is that time of the year – When everything is Sparkling and Glowing.
It is CHRISTMAS SEASON! So, Christmas is a Christian festival that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe was the son of God. It takes place every year on 25 December – the day that the Roman Catholic Church chose to mark Jesus’ birthday. The carol echoing in the chilled December is all set to welcome Santa with great joy and happiness. The Christmas month is all about the chilly weather, hot coffee, decorating Christmas tree, watching Christmas movies on Netflix, cakes and cookies, Santa and elf’s, candle lighting and lots of happiness.
Here is a list of few CHRISTMAS ESSENTIALS / TRADITIONS that I follow and believe in every year:
- CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS:
Every year, decorating my Christmas tree with all the pretty ornaments is probably my favourite part. We all want to decorate the perfect Christmas Tree with baubles, ornaments and lights perfectly coordinated in a festive and stylish scheme. However, it’s easier said than done. Decorating a Christmas tree is no mean feat. These are some of my recommendations that I have learnt on my own over the years.
- Invest in a nice medium sized artificial tree. I bought mine almost 10 years ago and it is in a perfect condition still. It’s a foldable tree which is very easy to pack and store. You can place it either in your bedroom or living room.
- Next step is finding beautiful decorations to hang on the tree which can include mini gifts, bells, fairy’s, stars, baubles, candy sticks, holly’s, Santa’s face etc. You can buy a combination of these from local shops near your place or from Amazon.
- You can use cotton to give a snowy effect to your tree. Use a very thin layer on each branch to make it look realistic. Also, add the same cotton effect on the base where you are keeping your tree and add certain ornaments randomly including mini gifts.
- Add Diwali lights or fairy lights on your tree in the end. Wrap it around your tree carefully. Voila, your beautiful Christmas Tree is ready.
2. WATCHING CHRISTMAS MOVIES:
Christmas movies play a major role in completing Christmas celebrations. Cozy up with a blanket, snack on some junk food and hot chocolate and get all the holiday feels and watch you favourite Christmas movies on Netflix. These are some of my movie recommendations:
- A Christmas prince
- The Princess Switch
- Christmas Wedding Planner
- A Royal Christmas
- The Knight before Christmas
- The Holiday Calendar
- A wish for Christmas
- A Dogwalker’s Christmas Tale
- Christmas chronicles
- Holidate
- Dash and lily
- A California Christmas
- Last Christmas
- Love Hard
- Home Alone
3. SENDING AN EMAIL TO SANTA:
It might sound silly to some of you but trust me it is not! Every year I write an email to Santa Claus. It does not matter whether you are a kid, teenager, or an adult, I encourage everyone to keep this tradition alive.
- Be sure to include your first and last name, spelled correctly. There may be someone else with your name, but spelled differently, and we don’t want to confuse Santa :p
- Tell Santa how you have been good this year. Remember, he knows if you’ve been bad or good, but he has a lot of humans to keep up with, so it’s okay to refresh his memory with some details! Be sure to mention anything special you did for others this year, too.
- When telling Santa what you would like for Christmas, be specific but stay flexible. Santa does his best to fulfil everyone’s wish, but sometimes even the elves can’t keep up with everything, and Santa’s workshop shelves run out of stock. Decide ahead of time to be happy with your presents and tell Santa, you know he always does his best to make every person happy on Christmas morning.
You can either email Santa or fill a Santa email form on one of the websites given below.

4. CHRISTMAS COOKIES AND CAROLS:
The tradition of Christmas cookies has its roots in Medieval Europe, and while we may associate some cookies with the holidays more than others, it’s also true that Christmas cookie recipes today come from all over the world. You can find various easy peasy recipes of making Christmas Cookies on YouTube or you can order for yourself from any bakery available near your place.
We must first differentiate between Christmas Carols, Christmas songs, and Christmas Hymns. Many of the songs we hear at Christmas time are not actually Christmas carols. Especially secular songs, such as Jingle Bells, “Frosty the Snowman, are not carols, but popular songs written on imaginatively generated texts. The word Carol actually means dance or a song of praise and joy! Carols used to be written and sung during all four seasons, but only the tradition of singing them at Christmas has really survived.
5. CHRISTMAS OUTFITS:
- Casual Christmas outfits –
These are perfect for when you can’t be bothered, you’re not doing anything too fancy, you’re off to family dinner, or you just want to feel comfortable and look cute. You know like there’s no fashion police around, but you still don’t want to look like a slob.
GIRLS – Your favourite jeans/leggings, paired with a Christmas sweater, or a dressy sweatshirt.
BOYS – Wear your favourite denim jeans, white shirt and a Christmassy sweater on top leaving the shirt’s collar popping outside the sweater
- Dressy Christmas outfits –
These can range from super dressy to just a hint of fancy.
GIRLS – It can be something like a very pretty skirt paired with a Christmas sweater or a fitted turtleneck, and a pair of cute heels.
BOYS – Wear your favourite pair of black denims with a fancy shirt to give it a dazzly Christmas vibe.
- Around the house –
I am always either fancy or slob. There’s no in between for me and I love both equally. But when you have to get all lazy around the house all day, then this will be the perfect fit.
GIRLS/BOYS – Cozy cool pyjamas and sweatshirt, fluffy socks, sipping hot chocolate and Netflix. (This one’s my favourite)
6. SANTA CLAUS:
We can’t talk about Christmas without a mention to the big bearded, rosy-cheeked jolly man, SANTA CLAUS. His real name is Saint Nicholas. The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nicholas was born sometime around 280 A.D. in Patara, near Myra in modern-day Turkey. He lives at the North Pole along with Mrs. Claus and the elf’s.
Santa’s elf’s tasks include making toys as Christmas gifts, taking care of the reindeer, baking cookies, making candy, preparing Santa’s sleigh, and assisting Santa with other tasks. One of the primary tasks of Christmas elves is to make toys all year long. I would suggest you watch the movie ‘CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES’ (both parts) on Netflix to enjoy a better and a detailed view of Santa and his elf’s. You can also track Santa’s Location through this link https://santatracker.google.com/
Also, don’t forget to hang your socks near the Tree on Christmas Eve. My cat Leo and I hang separate socks every year. On Christmas morning, the excitement to open the gifts is extraordinarily high :p
Christmas is hands down my favourite time of the year. I really hope your holidays will be filled with plenty of warmth, love, cheer, and happiness. I am sending buckets full of love and positivity this Christmas season to each and every one of you! With chilling winds and howls outside, let us make way for a fresh and a bright New Year! May the magic and the wonder of the holiday season stay with you and bring you good health, much happiness, and plenty of prosperity. See you in 2022 🙂
Love, KG
